self portrait

Create a reflection journal on your Blog and answer the following questions:
1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces?
2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait?
3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did
you overcome them?
4. How does this piece represent you?
5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work?
6. Did you enjoy working on this project?
7. What do you think of your final artwork?

1. I selected the images of William Henry Harrison, Vincent Van Gogh, and Portrait of a man because they were
Very inspirational. These portraits were what I set out to create.
However my portrait lived up to my artistic ability.
2. I used pencil to create my self portrait because I like using pencil.
You can shade well and the pencil makes nice lines in the portrait.
3.The challenges that I faced in creating my self-portrait was the drawing
the part.  I am not a good drawer at all but I overcame it but just doing
the best that I could and drew a self portrait.
4. I think the piece does kinda look like me, and I think it represents me
I think because I drew it.
5. I tried to use elements and principles of lines, shading, some pattern
and proportion as I drew this portrait.
6. I did enjoy working on my self-portrait.  It was fun, my children even
tried to draw their own portraits.
7. I like my final artwork a lot and think that it is work that was done
to the best of my ability.

Course Expectations

1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?

yes i beleive they were, I wanted to learn about art and be able to talk about it intelligantly. I now know alot about art and how art basically came about. I also learned about art concepts and how they work or apply them.

2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your initial posting?

In my initial posting i stated that i did not know much about art, i think art is a concept that has been developed over years and that there are many forms of it.  I think art is truly in the eye of the beholder but i can now look at a piece and know how it was made or a least the concept used.

3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?

I really don't have a favorite artist, I didn't when i began the course and i still don't. I have alot of art work that i like or like the concepts to which was used but i don't really recall a favorite artist.

4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?

My answer is the same on taking an online course.  I have taken a few of them and  find to have no problems with taking a course online. I prefer it being a mom who works full time.

Blog Refection

The projects that i reviewed were Growing Pains by Brittany Douglas, Nature in Art by Aarron Reese, and Made of Itself by Eliaas Taveras.

I chose Growing Pains by Brittany Douglas because it consisted of children, a subject near and dear to my heart.

The challenges i faced in critiquing Growing Pains was that i felt a little uncomfortable doing it because I am just starting to develop my education in critiquing an exhibit or art itself so it felt like i was driving for the first time on the highway.  However I did it in accordance to your guidelines in hopes that i did a good job.

I do not want to read what my peers wrote about my Art Curation Project only because it just feels to personal.

I would rate my finished article a 7 because i felt as though i was honest and followed all the guidelines for the project.

I found the project to be challenging and i like a challenge so yes i did enjoy the project.

Videos for 15

I had watched the Greenberg on Pollock: An interview by T. J. Clark and An Introduction to the Italian Renaissance (Giorgio Vasari).
The key concepts that i learned throughout these videos is how each artist contributes something new to art. Artists used realistic style to express landscapes or how contrasting light to dark to create depth, or how math was also brought to art.
Also in Greenbergs video the concept of what is real art was brought up and mural paintings departed from boxed characteristic of modern paintings.

I hope that these films will help me to identify the key concepts in my art criticism work.  I hope to use many of these ideas while critiquing work.  I believe the videos will help to also see what this artist has brought to his or her art work and if it contains the concepts that are need to make a great piece of art work

I like both films, the Greenberg video was very interesting because he was very down to earth and honest when answering Clark's questions.  And in An Introduction to the Italian Renaissance video i thought was overacted but the explanation of art was very education in the explaining of how each artist expressed or set a new bar or technique for newer artist to learn, practice or outdo.

reflective Journal

Project 4 reflective Journal

I had alot of fun doing project four, I had recently learned about tessellations and artist that make tessellations.  Tessellations are made by using the process of creating a two-dimensional plane using the repetition of a geometric shape with no overlaps and no gaps.  The art that I used in my slide show are famous and beginning artist.  I had a very hard time finding out some of the artists medias or when the artist produced the art. This was my only challenge in project four.

Video 13& 14

For the lowdown on Lowbrow video the key concept that I learned is that their is a cartoon language art and this was an important time in the art movement. Pop surrealism is a very popular form of art that is very popular among artists.

For the displaying modern art video the key concept that I learned that there are many different ways in which art can be displayed and the museum space can be spread out all over in different ways and spaces.

In the Bones of Contention: Native American Archaeology this video was very informational in the historical way bones and fragments can have other meaning to other people and how traditions means more to some than others.

And in the video An Acquiring Mind: Philippe DE Montebello and the Metropolitan it was extremely interesting in how his styles were used in the setting up of different displays.

I think the videos will relate to the creation of my art Exhibition project.  The video explain ideas of art and how they are displayed to enhance the art i will be using. The videos also explain certain aspects of traditions and how certain items mean different traditions.

I thought the videos explained art concepts very well, certain videos had different views and talked about alot of different angles of art.  I think this will add some great information to me creating my project.

Videos

I chose the video about Andy Warhol, Images of an Image because i don't really know much about Andy Warhol.
Also i chose the Uncertainty, Modernity and Art because the title caught my attention.

In Andy Warhols video the key concept that i learned was about the silk screening process in which he produced his art.

I the Uncertainty video the key concept that i learned was about the art itself and how modern art has become to call itself art.

Both of these video had everything to do with the reading because Andy Warhol was discussed in the reading as well as modern art.

I enjoyed both video's as they went more in-depth about both subjects in our readings ( Andy Warhol and Modern Art) the book just touched on both.

Art Gallery

http://s908.photobucket.com/albums/ac281/cherylrober/Art%20Gallery/art%20visit/?albumview=slideshow

The Exhibition
The Exhibits at the Burchfield Penny Art Center were Loud rebellion to quiet reflection, Idle diversion to essential human rights. Spain Rodriguez, Bradley McCallum Jacqueline Tarry, John Toth, the Roycroft artists and students from Native American School 19.

The Gallery
Lighting that was used in the exhibit varied, from skylights to spot lights on the art work.
White was the color used on the walls of the Gallery.
The materials used in the interior architecture of the space are white smooth walls that all around with the appearance of a staircase which at the top of the staircase is a huge clear glass wall looking down on the art below.
The movement of the viewer through the gallery space was well used in the placement of art and video art.

The Artwork

In each exhibit the artworks were well organized.  For example the Spain Rodriguezs exhibit was given a whole wall dedicated to the art work and displayed tasteful in a couple other wall near by.  The Roy-croft artist display was displayed in its own section away from but together with the other displays.

The artworks were not similar in any fashion.  The exhibits were  expressing completely different types of messages through their art making each piece very unique.

Some pieces of the art work were framed to show individual identity other pieces were framed with wooden frames.
Each piece of art work was labeled with a small identity plaque next to the art work explaining the art piece, the artist and small artists had a written summary of their art work.
The proximity of the artwork to each other was probably about one foot from the next.

Art Piece number 1
Artist: Eleanor Douglas
Title: Sunset
Media: oil on Board
Date: 1906
1. This is a beautiful painting of a orange/yellow sunset set in a prairie or grass field. This painting just brings a person to a time of watching a sun set. The painting is small but the impact of a beautiful sunset puts your mind as though a person was actually there.
2.The painting is a sunset set in a grassy field that boarders on a forest.
3. The principles and elements used in this painting are lot of vibrant color, form and well use of space and possibly pattern as well.
4. I didnt see any symbols or metaphors in this  painting.  To me no hidden messages or expression were in this painting.
5. I think the artist is trying to show a peaceful sunset that many people take for granted.  The sunset is colorful and showing how beautiful mother nature can be.

Art Piece number 2
Artist: Eleanor Douglas
Title : Untitled
Media: Oil on canvas
Date: Undated
1. "Tree" This is a beautiful painting of a fall seen within a forest. Three trees are presented with there trunk sizes expressed rather than the leaves or expressed rather than the leaves or branches.
2.Fall trees within a forest with leaves all over the floor of the forest .
3. The principles and elements used in this painting are color, form, proportion and space.
4.This painting reminds me of fall and taking brisk walks up at Letchworth during the fall season.  I however did not see any messages or hidden messages in this painting.
5. I think the artist was just trying to express the beauty of decay and the end of a summer/spring  seasons.

Art Piece Number 3

Cubism and Expressionism

I have chosen the video on Expressionism because I do not know much about it and the use of color and the emotion of color intrigues me to learn more about it.

I also chose the video about the Impact of Cubism because the way an artist uses unfamiliar ways to represent form and space is very interesting. I wanted to see more examples and more explanation on its use.

In the video Expressionism, I learned how the key concepts of color were used to express different properties of a painting.  This video showed how artists used color to express feelings through pronounced lines, shape and proportion.

The video The Impact of Cubism showed me the concepts of Influential style and how an artist would use unfamiliar ways to represent form and space.

The videos related very well in my opinion to the reading of the text because the reading explained how or why expressionism and cubism came about but the videos showed a lot of art by different artists and how they incorporated the style into the artwork.  The video showed a deep connection to the style and who the artist was and how the thought of the specific style came about into their lives and threw their work.

I enjoyed the videos I found them to be very in-depth on the artwork, style, and period. I really liked how the video explained artwork, what the artist was thinking, and how their lives affected the artwork as well.  The videos and text reading also explained a lot about the periods, which also gave me a understanding of the art concepts used in the art work as well.

mask art

1. Carnival, Oruro, Bolivia
24 inches, painted papier mache, glitter, glass
The devil mask captures the essence of the Oruro Carnival. The devil or Supay represents the Andean pre-conquest underworld figure that was lord of the hills and transmogrified by the Christians as the Devil. Masks like this are worn with equally ornate costumes in the big parade.
This mask is full of color, pattern, tecture from the color, and it has large horns that balane the proportion for movement.  The shape is well formed and the pattern is very well unique for its form.
2.Devil mask
Carnival, Oruro, Bolivia
14 inches, painted sheet metal
The devil mask captures the essence of the Oruro Carnival. The devil or Supay represents the Andean pre-conquest underworld figure that was lord of the hills and transmogrified by the Christians as the Devil. It has become one of the most popular carnival characters and is uniquely representative of Bolivian folk art.
This Carnival mask is very viberant and full of color that has emphasis on the forehead making emphasis on the eyes to lure your eye away from the actual holes for the mask wearer to see through.  Its a great mask that has form of an animal.

3.Clown Mask
Tacana people, Bolivia
8 inches, natural wool
The Tacana Indians live in and around the Madidi National Park in the rainforests of Bolivia. Like most of the other indigenous groups in that country, they are gifted mask makers. This particular mask is new and unpainted.

With this mask i liked the way simple lines were used along with texture because it was made from wood.
This mask had a simple pattern on both sides of the mask which give it a facial form that is clear.  Their is a emphasis on the tongue because its a clown face that will make a person laugh.

Buddhism and Hinduism

1. I selected the video on Buddhism and Hinduism because I know absolutely nothing on these two Religions or their impact on art and architecture.

2. In the video about Buddhism a key concept that I learned was how the religion has contributed to art, in both a symbolic and a story telling aspect.  In Buddhism the god has beautiful architectural building built telling the story of life and how fact and legend intertwine.  The developed a way to interpret wood techniques of art and architecture in stone carvings that are unbelievable mesmerizing.

In the video of Hinduism a key concept that I learned are all about the way art is incorporated into the massive structures of architecture.  The sculptures incorporated into the massive stone buildings are dedicated to a god and tell a story with each building about the god.  Everything about the religion is very symbolic and just emotionally drawing to a person.

3. The videos related to the text reading because in the text reading it touched on both of these religions.  However with the videos I got to see more pictures of the actual places that are built to practice the religions and see actually what they look like.

4. I really liked the films. I really liked seeing where they were and how the way of life was with Buddhism and Hinduism.  I learned a lot about both religions and have a better understanding of why their buildings look the way they do and their art.  The art and architecture is very extraordinary in my opinion.

Hand drawings

1. Using my hand as a subject started off ok but as i got to drawing and the mistakes happened and i drew and redrew my hand got tired but i also noticed that what i was drawing looked nothing like my actual hand.

2. I used the media pencil because i really haven't used charcoal to much in drawing. I just felt more comfortable using pencil.

3.  The drawing of my non-dominant hand felt fine because i had control over what i drew, when drawing my dominant hand however I felt very weird and in no control at all.

4. My final drawings were a success  I felt that the comparison from one drawing to another were very similar and  had nice lines that shaded well together however I am not very good at the skin folds in the hand.

5.I would not use my non-dominant hand in creating artwork for the future.  I am very bad when using my left hand because there is no detail or perfection in the work. However practice does make

perfect.http://s908.photobucket.com/albums/ac281/cherylrober/Hand%20drawings/?albumview=slideshow

Video Blog

I chose the video Velazquez and Albrecht Durer: Image of a Master because I had never heard of these two artists and was interested in learning more about them.  Also I thought that their names were very unique.

The key concept of the Velazquez video that I learned was that he used the technique of capturing the moment in his work. His work showed true emotion.  He also painted with balance of light and color, but with the use of simple colors.

In the Albrecht Durere: Image of a Master video I learned the concept of Italain Renaissance forms and ideas that were introduced.  He was very good at printing his work on different forms of artistic material such as steel, cooper and wood.  He was also called the first real landscape artist.

The videos related to the readings in the text because these artists had used concepts from the Renaissance era and or contributed art to the many times suggested in the readings.

I enjoyed the films, I got to learn many new things about a couple of artist and how times were in their lives and how they saw and developed art and art concepts.  Life was much different back then and the way of developing art was very unique.

Human Body

In the first video, Cairo Museum which opened in 1902 I thought it was amazing. I picked too watch this video because I find the Egyptian way of life very interesting and unique.

Also I watched The Measure of all things, Greek Art and the Human Figure.  I chose this video because i was intrigued by the human figure after watching the More Human Than Human.

For both video most concepts that i learned where associated with contrapposta, casting, assembling and carving.  I also learned about craft and arts with the different artifacts in the Cario Muuseum.

The videos related well to the chapters because they read alot about egypt, Greece and Rome.  Both video's had information on egypt, Greece and Rome in these videos.

I really liked the video's. I specifically liked the one about the Cairo Museum. The way to see a culture and the artifacts from its time was awesome   I really liked how they explained why the egyptions  art always looked the same.   This video gave a unique look at why art always looked the same or distorted.

Architecture Videos

In the first video that i watched Prairie Style I learned that Frank Lloyd Wright was an architect that other architects look up to.  Franks style of architecture was of an open floor plan and a house was built to become one with the land surrounding it.  A house was thought of being "of the land" where rooms flowed and there was a unspoken feel that the home had respect for the landscape.

In the video of classical Architecture is was very interesting to see how some of the buildings built had such detail of art on the buildings   The Queens house was the most classical and grand. It was also neat to learn about the Ancient Romans and how the pillars concept started and the grand buildings that followed with the engineering where built.

I think that the videos related very well to the readings in chapter 13.  Chapter 13 discussed alot about architecture and the video went very well together.

My opinion of the films was that they were extremely educational.  I never new anything really about architecture until this chapter and through these films.  I also liked seeing alot of the different building and where they were located threw out the world.  The Frank Lloyd Wright homes were also very extraordinary in the way that they tie into the land.

I chose the Prairie Style video because i don't know much about Frank Lloyd Wright and thought this would be a good chance to understand what people are always raving about.

I chose Classical Architecture because i like to look at it.  It is just so beautiful and full of different aspects of structure and design that i thought this was also a good time to learn a little about it.

Installation Art

Installation Art is art that has been installed and arranged in a place by and artist .  It can be tempory or permanent in that space.  The art takes over the place.

Any type of materials can be used in installation art, from dirt to computer monitors to paint.

Installation are is very controversial art, yet artists can articulate a design into the piece to really get a point across or arose that feeling in a person that awakens what the artwork is trying to express.

I really enjoyed Yayoi Kisama's fireflies on the Water, using mirror plexiglas, lights and water.

Step 4
The inspiration piece that i felt a connection with was the piece by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, The Gates.
I feel that this theme explored a environment Theme of art.

The materials i would use in an outdoor place would we to string up lots of different colors of material in in bright reds, oranges and greens among a outdoor setting of fall color changing trees.  I think with all the colors of fabric and fall color changing trees would complement the out setting perfectly.
 Step 5
With  this project and for what I have in mind I am unable to perfect it or even begin it because I don't have a budget to support it.  I have a great idea but sadly i wasn't even sure how to tackle it

Video Review

Through the eyes of a Sculptor video I learned alot about how the marble or stone is picked out for a speacial sculptor that an artists has in mind.  I had no idea how marble was cut from the moutains and how it has many veins running it through it.  It truely amazes me how they use to cut the stone from the mountain in the earlier days and then brought it down from the mountain.
In the video I also learned alot on how a scupltor starts a piece and then all the steps it must go through to become life size.  I have a new respect for sculptors.

The readings in the text book were general but to the point in explaining how a piece is made but the video explained it in more depth.  I liked the readings in the text book about a sculpture in casting and carving but also liked to look at the different materials used to construct a piece and the pictures that they used.

Glass and Ceramics video was also very eye opening.  I never new alot about the chemical make up of the two items so I found it to be extremely interesting.  For example to bake the substance at a certain temperature and then to cool it slowly gives you a hard yet fragile product.

The book readings were also very interesting.  The pictures alone of the different glass and ceramic objects that artists made are very beautiful yet have a domestic purpose at the same time.  The readings explained alot about the different types of crafts that produce some of the most extraordinary objects that humans used throughout history as well as present day.

In the video Installation Art was very helpful in trying to understand how an artist can call it art for me.  I would look at the art and have a hard time figuring out why its called art.  In the video the artists would explain their art and what idea they had in making it.  This made it easier to understand.

In the readings from the text book I didn't feel explained how this is called art well.  It touched on a few bases but not alot for me to get a full grasp on what Installation Art is or how and why we call it art.

In the end I enjoyed the videos alot they were full of great information and showed alot of the techniques used in the production of a sculpture, craft or Installation art.  The videos helped in explaining why an artists go through what they do when creating a piece.  Also that its not as easy as it looks.

peers review

http://arteducationclass.blogspot.com/
 aed200brittanylawson.blogspot.com

http://thoughtsonblogging0907.blogspot.com/

The first name above mine I could not open the link to see his project number one.. So then i moved on to the next name above mine but there too Brittany Lawsons blog was missing project number one.
Finally in the student that i chose randomly had great pictures that definitely represented the art element. I didn't really see any other elements in the pictures except for little ones like line.

For project number two surprisingly no one chose the same images as i did.

I really liked some pieces of art that Brittney chose that had an impression on her. I stared at the art work for at least five minutes. Brittney had gone to the Burch-field Penny Art center, however i had gone to the Al bright Knox center. For these two pieces that i really liked I would like to know about the artist and just go to the art gallery and look at the art.

I really enjoyed reading my peers reflections because they were full of great information and it was nice to see how others did their projects.

Logo

http://s908.photobucket.com/albums/ac281/cherylrober/logo/?albumview=slideshow

I really liked creating a logo, throughout the whole process I had to really think hard about things that represent who I am as a person.   And then what would be that "logo" it took alot of tries but I really like what i have come up with. My logo has many meanings throughout it.  Its very special to me.

For the process that i used to start my logo i used the method in Basic design link. This is where I got the idea to make a list of things that represent me as a person.  Then after that it was alot of doodling till i came out with something that I really like.

The most important thing I learned in creating a logo was that its not as easy as it looked in the video.  It takes serious thinking and creativeness on your part.

I really liked the videos they described the making of their logo look very simple and it was also very cool to watch as they were being created.  The basic design link was also very helpful it helped me in getting started with my logo.  All the materials that you gave us really helped me in either getting started or helped in the finishing process.

Art Gallery

http://s908.photobucket.com/albums/ac281/cherylrober/Art%20Gallery/?albumview=slideshow

The piece of artwork that made a impact or impression on me was the graphite pencil drawing on paper and then how the artist designed the graphite pencil paper into a sculpture just made a huge impression on me.  the way the artist used just pencil and paper in the art work was very extraordinary.

Another piece of art work that made an impact on me was Barnaby Furnas's "Flood".  I love this painting i wish i could have bought it and took it home.  It made a huge impact on me the way the colors where used and just how it looked personally.

The painting that i felt a connection with is the La Source de la love by Gustave Courbet. It just had a unexplored cave that looked beautiful yet who knows what lurked inside.

The other painting i felt connected to was the one by Sandra Cinto the "Tempest in Red" this painting just made me feel like the things going on in my life.

The two artists I would like to know more about and see more of there art work are the art pieces by Anne Spalter, "Fractvie from a series Internal Energies" and Jennifer Steinkamp's Untitled computer video.  These pieces where very different from the traditional forms and i would just like to know more about the artists and how they came up with their art work and what they go through to produce a piece of art.

Color and value

http://s908.photobucket.com/albums/ac281/cherylrober/color/?albumview=slideshow

I really liked creating the value scale and color wheel.  I felt like a little like a artist getting ready to paint a master piece.  Making the color also became a family event as my daughters all wanted to make one too.  It was very fun.
However the value scale was a little trickier in getting the grays just right to go to a lighter shade.

The most important discovery I made in creating these studies is that its not as easy as it looks.  It takes time to get the value scale just write and the color wheel sometimes your colors don't look like the video did at all and then you have to start over.

The most important thing i learned from the videos is that what i really did think were primary colors were not and that is very hard to take in and rethink again.  I liked the videos they were not draw out but straight to the point and educational.

Reflection Journal

http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac281/cherylrober/schoolproject043.jpg

Elements of Design:
I chose a line in a parking lot to describe a line because it is exactly that a straight line.

For shape I chose a stop sign.  The stop sign is a hexagon shape which is geometric.

For Forms I chose a entrance post to a cemetery which held up a giant round ball.  This ball was diffidently a three-dimensional shape.  Expressing depth length and width.

Space I chose a fish swimming in a lake. It expressed open space referring to the feeling of depth.

Color expressed in hues and intensity, I chose two flowers with the same color but in different hues and intensity's to show the differences.

For texture I tried to show the texture of a grave stone and how the artist carved out a tree with the families name on it.

Principles of Design:

In Balance i used a sculpture of a women on her knees to show the form and how she designed to feel staple.

In Emphasis I Chose my photo of a boat on the ocean floor as the tide went out.  The emphasis is on the boat not the landscape or the lack of water.

Movement I chose the ripple in the water to show how the water is moving.

Pattern I chose a line of evergreens and how their shape and design was the same creating a pattern among them.

In repetition I chose a picture of a cemetery and all the grave stones that repeat throughout the cemetery.

Proportion,  I chose again the sculpture of the women and how all her body portions where very real and almost life like.

For Rhythm i chose a picture a picture of a child on the marry go round, this to me created organized movement for me.

Variety,  I chose a picture of a child on a playground that expressed lines, color, proportion allowing the audience to look at her the colors the landscape and more.

In Unity I chose a rainbow. This to me expresses everything that art is beautiful and at times full of color.

Color and its effect on emotion.

Emotions are responsive to color.  The responses are both culturally conditioned and intensely personal.  Cool colors which are blues are associated with freedom and calming in the American perception of art.  However blue in other countries are the colors of god or linked to sadness.  Different colors mean different things to people.  Depending on their background and social beliefs colors can mean all different things to people.

The most theoretical aspect of color that most fascinates me is color properties.  So many different effect of a color can be made from hue, value and intensity.Because of these unique properties a art work can take a colorful or not so colorful stand.

In the color video as the artist tried to create a masterpiece, but her colors did not do what she wanted them to do.  She had much trouble getting them to create a emotion within herself that satisfied her in a finished piece of art work.  The way her emotion became anger at the painting was unique in the way the colors effected her.
In the feelings video the biggest impact on me was how the two artists were similar until there perceptions of life and the world changed how a painting can change so drastically.  It was so disturbing to see how Goya took such a drastic way of thinking about the world and put it on canvas.  But it was nice to see David think of the world as clarity and good.  I also found interesting that in med-evil time paintings were of god, in Renascence time paintings were about humanity in god and in the enlightenment world humanity was instead of god.  Just a great video overall, learned things i had no idea about. :)

Videos

For the first video on Aesthetics I found it to be very educational.  I never new that the aesthetics of Art had developed in the way of philosophers.  It all started with Plato from the fourth century BC.  He believed that art in itself was a copy of a copy.  Plato said that art was ideas that consisted of no aesthetics. However Aristotle had a different view of art in a somewhat mathematical science.  His ideas where very different from Plato's.  Francis Hutchenson of the 18th century brought about ideas in our soul by beauty and harmony.   His idea of art expressed the meaning of Aesthetics.  But I really connected to Immnnuel Kant ideas of art that through the genus nature sets rules to art.  I also connected to Fricddrich von Schider from the 18th century, He also connected the aesthetics of art can be truly expressed more through education of aesthetics.  Geory Hrgel from the 19th century had a great aesthetic view of art as well by expressing the intuition of the spirit and that beauty is defined as the appearance or the the sensible reflection.  There are more philosophers theory but these are just some to which i connected with or learned something interesting about them.

For the second video the key concept i learned was the definition of art.  The way the artifacts and human productions are recognized as works of art is very educational to me.  How the professor explained distinct forms of language, nonverbal communication to be a work of art is also very interesting.  I also like how he showed the chauvet and explained that art is a constant evolution.
I liked listening to ramachandran his ideas where educational and humours.  I enjoyed his theory including the eight laws of art however only really agreed with the fact that art is a metaphor.

Both Changeux and Ramachandran had great scientific views on art i only agreed with certain parts of there lectures.

The videos were very educational and related to the readings of the text book.
I found the videos very interesting in how they express the scientific view of art, they explored a part of realizing the way aesthetics came into play with art.

In video one John Dewey of the 20th century was a little of base i think by saying "feeling aroused by a work of art are not purely a personal experience but that they must be of a universal nature".  Because are can be a personal experience and not everyone must feel the same way even if it is a historical piece of art.
